IN LOVING MEMORY
Ann Meter McNeil-Redden, affectionately known as "Mama" by so many, was born November 5, 1937 in Thomas County, Georgia to the late Steve and Minnie Lou McNeil. The second of five children, Ann moved to Washington, DC at the age of six where she attended public schools in the DC Fairmont School District. She returned to Meigs, Georgia as a teenager to care for her grandmother Monsoon, the Bostick family matriarch. During this time, she also worked on local family farms harvesting staple groups and successfully driving heavy farm equipment.
Ann joined Saco Missionary Baptist Church in Cotton, Georgia as a teenager where the Reverend E. J. Fowler, Jr. still serves as pastor. She remained a faithful member serving in the senior choir, usher board, and later in her favorite capacity as coordinator and director of Saco's Annual Christmas Pageant.
Ann was united in marriage to Willie Howard Redden, Sr. in September of 1962. Four children were born to this union but she was the "adoptive" mother to many more. Ann and Sonny moved to Albany, Georgia where she continued her education through Dougherty County Adult Education Extension. She completed certification in Special Education from then Albany Technical College, earning meritorious recognition. She worked at Dougherty County Lincoln Heights Elementary School both as substitute teacher and Special Education assistant. While in Albany, she expanded her love of sewing into a profession, service as personal seamstress to Albany's "First Ladies". She later moved to Baconton, Georgia and worked at RCM Enterprises for over thirteen years.
Ann has achieved civic and professional recognition from Albany Chapter of Jack and Jill of America-Inaugural Beautillion; certificate of outstanding dedication to Pelham Elementary School and its Pre-K Program and State of Georgia Governor's award for thirty-five plus years providing a home of love and concern as a foster parent to over two hundred thirty children from diverse cultural backgrounds.
On Saturday, February 23, 2013, at six fifteen in the evening at her home in Baconton, she boldly and gracefully completed her transition from this earthly life and was called home to heaven.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a husband, Howard "Sonny" Redden, Sr. of Baconton, Georgia; children, Willie Howard Redden, Jr. of Baconton, Georgia, Gregory Hope Redden of Atlanta, Georgia, Bridgett Rena' Jackson of Baconton, Georgia and Willa Paulette Redden (Bobby) Greene of Sumter, South Carolina; a venerable sister-in-law, Katie Mae McNeil (Andrew - deceased).

To Ann Redden With Love
We had an angel here beside us,
Sent to Earth to help and guide us,
An angel always there for us
Sent to love and care for us.
She did the things that angels should:
She taught us what was bad and good,
She gave us hope when no one cared,
She held our hand when we were scared,
She cheered us up when we were down
She could make a smile from a frown.
She doctored us when we were sick,
And many another angel trick.
Today our angel earned her wings,
Her halo, harp and other things.
But today we're lost and all alone
For today God called our angel home.
