Obituary

Annie Doris Allen was born August 30, 1939 to the late W. L. Ross and Remonia Burley Ross of Camilla, Georgia.  She was called home to glory on Sunday, February 9, 2020.

Annie Doris received CHRIST at an early age under the leadership of C. S. Phillips of St. John Missionary Baptist Church.  She attended school at Rockdale High School and after graduating from Camilla Consolidated School in 1959, she continued her education at Albany State College now Albany State University in Albany, Georgia.  Annie Doris met the love of her life, Robert Allen, and together decided after they were married to look for brighter opportunities.  It was they that they migrated north to New Rochelle, New York.  Continuing to praise and worship, they joined Shiloh Baptist Church.  It was here that she found her calling and love for mentoring children.  She joined the Senior Missionary Group and helped out with the young adult choir.  She was also a big part of the Sunday School program and always offered to help out in any way she could.  She worked throughout the New Rochelle School System until she retired after many years of service.

Annie Doris Allen was recognized by being a devoted wife for fifty-eight years; mother of four; grandmother of ten; and great grandmother of three.  Her devotion and love to her family and her willingness to sacrifice her desires to be the best wife and mother she could be was just an example of the extraordinary woman she was.  Robert and Doris, after many years of hard work, would now follow their dreams to return to Camilla and settle down.  Doris returned to her church and continued to worship her love for CHRIST was never doubted.  One could hear her throughout the day stopping and giving him praise.  Thank you Jesus was repeated regularly.  What a bright spirit sweeter than you could imagine.

Annie Doris Allen was predeceased by her husband, Robert Allen; four brothers, Joe Ross, Howard Lewis Ross, Arthur James Ross and Willie Frank Ross; one sister, Ruby Lee Shelton.

She is survived by her children, Kerry Allen (Sophie) Bronx, New York, Robert Allen, Jr. (Lavet) Mamaroneck, New York, Kandie Steppe (Sean) of New Rochelle New York, Lashawn Nicole Ballard (Johnny) of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Marquis (Latisha) Marcus, Marquez and Marquaisha, Amber Camille, Tauri, Dashawn and Johnny, Jr., Eliyah; great grands, Shayla, Lamar, Ronin; one sister, Corinne Robinson; three brothers, Mathis Ross, Freddie Ross (Mary) of Camilla, Georgia, Jimmy Ross of Spartanburg, South Carolina; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, who loved her very much.  A special niece, Ruby Dean, we thank you for being there for Nana through the good and bad times.  We love and appreciate all you have done.
