LIFE PROFILE
Annie Lee Thomas Hicks was born on November 28, 1916 in Mitchell County, Georgia to Joe Thomas and Mariah Quimbley. "Mama Lee", as she was affectionately called, was the baby of three siblings, Rosa D. and her dearly beloved brother Joseph Thomas.
She received a sixth grade education in the public school system of Camilla, Georgia. Annie Lee confessed CHRIST at a very early age and joined the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where she had been a member for eighty-four years.
Annie was united in Holy Matrimony to C. T. "Cloe T." Hicks. To this union four children were born. She was the matriarch of two fifth generations.
Mrs. Hicks attended the SOWEGA Council on Aging, ACTO Daycare, and Statewide Adult Day until her departure from this life. Mama Lee loved church, life, and people. The loves of her life were Dollar General, Harvey's, "Walker Texas Ranger", "Law & Order", and the Gospel Cavalcade D.J. Doc Suttles. Even though she never drove a car, she had a fixed schedule for those designated to take her wherever she wanted to go. She always made sure that she took care of her family, often spending very long hours by their side when they were sick. She also took the time to visit others who were sick.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Rosa D. and Joseph Thomas; a husband, Charles Thomas Hicks; and a granddaughter, Elaine Jackson.
She departed this life on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at Palmyra Medical Center in Albany, Georgia.
Those left to cherish her memories include four children: Lucy (Charlie) Taylor of Atlanta, Georgia, Annie Doris (Oscar) Jackson of Camilla, Georgia, Mary (Eugene) Bailey, and George (Stella) Hicks, both of Albany, Georgia. Mama Lee had twelve grandchildren: Larry, Vernon, Emmanuel, Ann, Aaron, Beverly, Monica, Valeria, Oscar, Cepada, and Vincent; thirty-one great grandchildren; thirty great-great grandchildren; one niece; two nephews; two sisters-in-law; a host of grand nieces and nephews; one living first cousin, Hattie Johnson (92) of Miami, Florida; devoted caregivers, Ann Weathers and Oscar Jackson; and many extended family and friends who stuck by us until the end.
She is already missed by all who knew her, because all who knew her loved her.

**********
I'm Free
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free
I'm following the path God has laid you see.
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work, to play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found peace at the end of the day.
If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Oh yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sushine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much
Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and peace to thee
God wanted me now; He set me free.
