Obituary

Annie Doris McIntyre, our beloved, beautiful family historian and griot who was known for sharing family stories, was born November 16, 1935 in Camilla, Georgia to James and Ethel McIntyre.  At an early age, she was considered very special to her family because of her feisty, yet mature mannerisms.  She always wanted to be around the elders in her family and valued education and healthy eating, highly.  Raised by her Grandma Lillie, she was educated in the Mitchell County School System.  Likewise, at home, she was taught the values of reading and loving family by her elders, as well as, living off the land.  She was also a "mother hen" of sorts, taking care of her many siblings and cousins simulating the love and authority of the elders who raised her.

Armed with wisdom and a vision, she left home at 17 and moved to Miami, Florida.  There, she married George Brown also of Camilla, Georgia, and they started their family.  She had a prophecy of seeing a nice, large home with French doors leading to a beautiful garden.  In Miami, she found this home and raised her family.  Because she was a strong disciplinarian who loved her family dearly, she invited her siblings from Georgia to live with her, as they prepared to create homes for themselves in Florida.  She took them in with love.  This became the theme for her life.

While in Miami, she further continued her love of providing service to others in her professions.  In the 1960s, she worked at the Florida Juice Company.  Later, she began to work at Mount Sinai Medical Center.  In the '70s, she received her LPN License and became a Nurse at St. Francis Hospital.  In the 1990s, she retired from nursing at the hospital and began to work as a Private Duty Nurse.  She loved providing service to people as Jesus did.  Annie Doris became a member of the Order of Eastern Stars and a devoted  member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church.  She fed many, clothed numerous amounts of people, and loved hard among her family and in her community in Miami, Florida.

Although she took care of many people and was well-known for her service, she had four children of her own and raised younger siblings and cousins in the home with her children.  In this, she imparted lots of knowledge and wisdom of Christ and discipline.  She would often say in tough love to her children and other younger family, "Ya'll think I'm mean, but I am helping you all be ready for this world."  When they would run and play in the yard, she'd say, "Stay where I can see you. If I can't see you, I'm a get you."

As her children grew into adulthood to have their own children, naturally, she nurtured and developed her grandchildren with the same "tough love" example.  To some of her grandchildren, not only was she their "granny," but she also became their mother, as they know her today affectionately. From her siblings, to her children, to her younger cousins, and grandchildren, she taught lessons through her words, behavior, and always through God's Word. She taught them all how to cook from fresh ingredients, to clean, to drink plenty of water, and to take care of their children when they would become adults. She loved to dance and enjoyed extensive travels; she was amazing!  In her later years, she was grateful that her children and many family members she cared for appreciated the lessons she taught, her feistiness, her smile, and her laughter.

She leaves behind her three children: Lillian Morris (Gilbert) of Albany, Georgia; Ozell Davis (Trina) of Byron, Georgia; Tangel Hence of Miami, Florida; and one deceased, Patrick E. Brown. Siblings: Eddie McIntyre of Macon, Georgia; Margaret McIntyre of Macon, Georgia; Richard H. McIntyre (Stephanie) of Kathleen, Georgia; Oberia McIntyre of Macon, Georgia; Madison McIntyre of Macon, Georgia; Cynthia McIntyre Hill (Edward) of Macon, Georgia; Thomas McIntyre of Macon, Georgia; and Gwendolyn McIntyre of Macon, Georgia; Ethel Footman Smothers (Earnest) of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Ira Footman (Janice) of College Park, Georgia; Eloise Footman Morgan (Charlie) of Little River, South Carolina; Robert Footman (Barbara) of Palm Beach, Florida; Larsenia Kelly Donaldson (Headley) of Orlando, Florida; Scottie Footman (Mavis) of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Ralph Footman (Alfredia) of Winter Haven, Florida; and Bernard Footman (Bridegtt) of Winter Haven, Florida; Timothy Footman (Charlette) of Bartow, Florida; 22 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.

She was preceded in death by siblings: Ricky James McIntyre, Mattie McIntyre Shine, Laura McIntyre Williams, William M. L. McIntyre, Robert Lee McIntyre, Lillie Mae McIntyre Chapman, Lucille McIntyre Carpenter, and Laura Footman Clifton.
