Arthur James Hicks was born March 21, 1939 in Mitchell County, Georgia to Willie Hicks, Sr. and Rosa D. Thomas Hicks.
He attended the public school system of Camilla, Georgia. Arthur James confessed CHRIST at an early age and joined Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend C. Neal.
On October 21, 1967, Arthur James was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Matha Lee Wimberly. To this union two children were born.
Arthur served as a musician for the following churches: Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Brown Chapel Baptist Church, Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, and Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He also served as musician for the Male Chorus of Mitchell County. Arthur was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Pelham, Georgia.
Arthur was employed with Hayes Equipment and was also a carpenter and welder. He worked and retired as an Assistant Manager at Rohm and Hass Chemicals, LLC. People on a whole were very appreciative of his work ethics. Arthur was a "people-person" and gave as much or more than he received.
In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Sylvia Queen Eady, Rosa B King, Emma Kate Cammon, Mary Ellen Hicks, Eva Mae Haywood; three brothers, Willie C. Hicks, Issac Hicks, Roosevelt Hicks.
He departed this life on Monday, February 18, 2019, at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville, Georgia.
Those left to cherish his memories include a daughter, Karen Wimberly-Hicks of Camilla, Georgia; a son, James Hicks of Bainbridge, Georgia; four grandchildren, Karissa Robinson (Justin) Populus, Ambyr Hicks, Rondarian Hicks, Ja'Quez Hicks; two great grandchildren, Carter Populus and Sevyn Ingram.
Arthur James is also survived by two sisters, Annie Ross of Miami, Florida, Gloria Jean Anderson of Atlanta, Georgia; a special nephew, Marvin Hicks of Camilla, Georgia; four brothers-in-law, Israel Eady, Willie B. Wimberly of Camilla, Georgia, George (Margie) Wimberly of Orlando, Florida, John (Joann) Wimberly of Macon, Georgia; six sisters-in-law, Lucille Hicks, Rosa Lee Hicks of Miami, Florida, Roberta Hicks, Lillie (Ronnie) Saxon, Barbara Wimberly of Camilla, Georgia, Delois Martin of Albany, Georgia; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
