Obituary

Autrie Mae (Aaron) Calhoun was born July 21, 1947 to Felix C. Aaron and Annie Bell (Miller) Aaron in Adger, Alabama.  She was the fifth child.

She finished her education in Bessemer, Alabama.  She moved to Cleveland, Ohio after graduation and later settled in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she married Willie Walker.  She bore two sons, Eric Aaron and Jeremy Walker.  She later met Earl Calhoun, whom she married for the remainder of her life.

Autrie was always spiritually inclined.  Autrie Mae Calhoun was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on June 13, 1987 in Fort Lauderdale.  She served as a witness for thirty-three years and served as a pioneer for 19 years.  Mae always found ways to be of service with a sense of purpose, and touched many lives.  Autrie and Earl moved to Camilla, Georgia, where she met her best friend, Katherine Peaks and numerous loving and beautiful brothers and sisters at the Pelham Congregation.  Becoming a witness moved Autrie Mae to adapt a new personality and through the remainder of her life you can see Jehovah's qualities reflected through her.

On September 27, 2020, Autrie was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer.  She courageously endured, never giving up hope.  Even in her most difficult moments she looked to Jehovah.  The evening of October 28, 2020, at 5:57 p.m., Autrie passed away of cancer at her residence in Camilla, Georgia.  She passed as a faithful, kind, and loving sheep of His kingdom.  She was sure of the resurrection hope before her passing.  She was comforted and cared for by her sisters, Susan Way and Deborah Young, her grandson, David Aaron, and her best friend, Katherine Peaks.  Mae was 73 years old.

Autrie was always a reserved person, but she always stood her ground and never took disrespect from anyone.  Her home was always open to her family.  She fervently loved, nurtured, and cared for children and grandchildren.  One thing about Mae, she always had a joke for any situation and could crack anybody up.  Mae was a strong woman, a fashionista, and a master cook to say the least.  She was an inspiration to her family, friends, and community.

Autrie was preceded in death by her son, Jeremy Walker, her grandson, Timothy Aaron, her husband, Earl Calhoun, her parents, Felix Aaron and Annie (Aaron) Miller, and siblings, Edith (Aaron) Woods, Elizabeth (Aaron) Ward, Ruth (Aaron) Byrd, Katherine (Aaron) Harper, Walker Aaron, Lovell Aaron, Michael Aaron, Jessie Aaron, Kenneth Aaron, and Donna (Aaron) Stone.

She will be deeply missed and leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Eric Aaron; her daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Aaron; and her grandchildren, Michael Aaron, David Aaron, and Elizabeth Aaron.  Her sisters, Louise (Aaron) Harris, Susan (Aaron) Way, Anita L. Comedy, Deborah [Gary] (Aaron) Young, and Joy Aaron; her brother, Daniel (Tina) Aaron.  Her close friends, Katherine Peaks and Sylenthia Williams.  Her niece, Terri Fitzgerald, amongst many other nieces and nephews, and her aunt, Juanita Thurston.

Special thanks to Robert Jester Mortuary for handling her cremation and taking care of her body.
