Obituary

The journey of life for Miss Bettie Lou Lyons began on March 24, 1941 in Newton, Georgia.  She was the youngest of four children born to the late Johnny Lyons and Gracie Lyons.

During her childhood years, she joined the St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church in Newton, Georgia.

During the early years of her life, her family moved from Newton, Georgia and relocated to Camilla, Georgia.  She received her education from Rockdale School and Camilla Consolidated School.  Both schools were in Camilla, Georgia.

In the early sixties, she started her journey and moved to New York City where she worked at a hospital as a housekeeper in the housekeeping department.

In 2004, she returned to Mitchell County where she resided in Baconton, Georgia.  She had a very active life in Baconton and Baker County where she was a member of both senior citizens programs.  The program consisted of fellowshipping, Bible Study teaching, playing bingo and luncheons.  Bettie enjoyed cooking and bringing surprises to the group.

She enjoyed talking and meeting her classmates from school years.

Bettie loved to wear her hats and pearls on a daily basis.  She loved flowers and she could nurse them back to life.

Bettie lived a life of kindness and compassion tempered with a loving and giving spirit.  She had strong faith in the Lord.  Even in the midst of health challenges and adversities she was always grateful for every good thing that came her way.  Her stamina and strength helped her family to realize that everyday is a blessing and an opportunity to encourage others to remain strong and to create lasting memories.  She will be missed by family and friends who loved her dearly.  She was consistent in her efforts to care for the needs of her children and grandchild.

On March 26, 2021, Bettie transitioned from this earthly life at Willson Hospice House in Albany, Georgia.

Miss Bettie moved from her old house and moved to her new house with the Lord.

Bettie was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny Lyons and Gracie Lyons; her sisters, Ida Mae Reese, Mattie Brown, Bonnie Ruth Baker, Mildred Baker Burns, Hattie Ruth Baker; one brother, Robert Lee Lyons.

She leaves a legacy of love and fond memories to be cherished by her two loving daughters, Mrs. Jackie B. Graham (Ronnie) of Baconton, Georgia, whom was adopted by her parents, and Kim Lyons of Valdosta, Georgia; one grandson, Ke'on Graham of Baconton, Georgia, whom she cherished a lot.  She has one sister, Gladys Baker Williams of Newton, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Rosa Lyons of Camilla, Georgia; a godson, Carlton Robinson; a goddaughter, Yevette Cole of New York; three god grandsons; a host of special nieces, nephews, other family members; special friends and neighbors whom she loved dearly.
