Mrs. Catherine Ross Bradley was born January 29, 1918 in Camilla, Georgia, and departed this life on May 6, 2017, at Parkwood Healthcare Facility, Phenix City, Alabama. She was the third of eight children born to Joe L. Ross, Sr. and Carrie Smith Ross. Her parents and all her siblings preceded her in death. Her siblings were W. L. Ross, Pearlie Ross, Rosa Lee Ross, Joe Ross, Jr., Eula Mae Ross, and Willie C. Ross, Sr.; one other sibling boy was stillborn.
Because of her faith in GOD and HIS Holy Word, Catherine was convicted to accept JESUS CHRIST as her SAVIOR and joined Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. Throughout her adult life, she was a loyal and steadfast member of Zion Grove, serving as a Deaconess, member of the Senior Choir, and the "Mother of the Church" for several years.
The former Miss Ross was united in Holy Matrimony to John Spencer Bradley in 1947, in a marriage that lasted 26 years. GOD blessed the both of them with a daughter, Sherrell, through adoption.
She was also a faithful worker at St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Baconton, Georgia. Here she served in the Missionary Society, sang in the Senior Choir, and regularly attended Bible Study.
Mrs. Bradley's early education was completed at Zion Grove's Church School. She completed cosmetology training at Chatmon's School of Beauty, Albany, Georgia, and received her license in Cosmetology. For many years, she was self-employed as a beautician in Baconton. She was also a full-time employee of Nut Tree Pecan Company in Baconton and alter, Albany. "Mrs. Catherine" was known for her culinary skills, especially for baking award-winning pecan pies and pound cakes.
In 2010, at the age of 92, she relocated to Phenix City, Alabama with her daughter, son-in-law, and his 95 year old mother. During these years, she became an active member of the congregation of Sightseeing Road Chapel, Fort Benning, Georgia, where she was affectionately known as "Mother Bradley". After a brief illness, she transitioned into the loving arms of JESUS, in the presence of her immediate family.
Precious memories will forever remain in the hearts and minds of her loving, caring family: her daughter, Sherrell Bradley Catchings; son-in-law, Fred Jordan Catchings, both of Phenix City, Alabama; granddaughters, Nichole Leverette of Fairburn, Georgia, Ashley (George) Lindsey, Phenix City, Alabama; grandson, Lihu Graham Catchings, College Park, Georgia; great-grandson, Jordan Leverette; sisters-in-law, Annie L.
