Obituary
Christy Ann Haywood Sanders was born on a snowy February 12, 1958 in Camilla, Georgia to the late Nathan Haywood, II and the late Christine Wilson Haywood. She was the seventh of their eight children. Because their parents died when Christy was very young, she and her siblings were reared by their sister, Mary Jo Haywood. Two siblings preceded "Chris" in death: Willie Vernon Haywood and Amber Kaye Haywood.
As a child she joined the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she was active in the youth department. After moving to Key Largo, Florida in 1977, she joined and remained a member of the Key Largo Community Covenant Church.
Christy attended the Oak Grove Elementary School and the Mitchell County High School from which she graduated in 1975.
In 1977, she married her former husband, Larry "Donail" Sanders. She remained in Key Largo until her retirement after a thirty-four career with the Winn-Dixie Corporation, leave as deli manager. In May, 2009, she returned to her beloved hometown to reside. Chris spent her week days in Tallahassee, lovingly caring for her great nieces and great nephew, Jordan, Kalen and Logan Roberts, in the home of Gary and Chanta Haywood Roberts. Is was in their home that she died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, December 20, 2012.
Chris showed overwhelming devotion to her family - paying extra close attention to whose whom she saw as the Future: Mr. Kaleb, Jordan-Boo, Miss KayKay, Rollie Man, Ashanti, French Fry, Justin and Joppa. Her teaser was Buffy "The Ree."
An avid reader, she passed with her ever present Kindle Fire, which she called her BFF, with her in bed. She loved and appreciated all kinds of music, and she was a trash talking sports fan. She bodly took many jabs because of her love for country music and the Alabama Crimson Tide and Boston Celtics. Even in a room full of Rams and Rattlers, she would dare call out "Roll Tide." But it was her masterful cooking- especially of seafood creations - that made her a legend. She leaves behind many grieving stomachs that will never again experience the delight caused by her meals.
She leaves to cherish her memories two loving sons, Adrian Haywood of Valdosta, Georgia (and his fiancee, Shantrell Harrison of Albany, Georgia) and Sedrick "Fred Haywood" Hodge and his wife Tracie Brown Hodge of Tallahassee, Florida; a grandson, Kaleb Hodge of Tallahassee, Florida and two granddaughters, Ashanti Harrison and Aziah Haywood of Albany, Georgia; two brothers, Nathan Haywood of Camilla, Georgia and Cecil Haywood and his wife, Bessie Haywood of Columbus, Georgia; three sisters, Mary Jo Haywood, Vivian Lumpkin and Rita Haywood of Camilla, Georgia. She is also survived by another sister, her father's oldest child, Willie Carol Arline of Albany, Georgia.
Chris will also be remembered by her nieces and nephews: Dr. Chanta Haywood of Tallahassee, Florida, Anthony Lumpkin of Indianapolis, Indiana, Buffy Lumpkin of Camilla, Georgia, Terrance "Gil" Lumpkin of Thomasville, Georgia, Monique Haywood of Camilla, Georgia, Carlus Haywood of Pelham, Georgia, Temeika "MiMi" Jenkins of Indianapolis, Indiana, Frizell Crump of Virginia Beach, Virginia, William Haywood, Kelvin Haywood, Bridgett Bonaparte, Willie Bonaparte, Yolanda Bonaparte, Nicole Brimberry, Kasandra Robinson and Virgil Robinson of Camilla, Georgia, JaQuon Haywood of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and ShaQuanda Mathews of Columbus, Georgia.
She is also survived by many other loving family members and awesome friends. She was especially close to her two confidantes and traveling buddies, Louise "Daisy" Lumpkin and Shanquella Scott Terry of Key Largo, Florida. Then there is the one whom she held dearest, her soul mate, Tony "Ole Chap" White of New York, New York and London, England. They defined all that friendship and agape love should be.
CELEBRATION SERVICE
The funeral service of Christy Ann Haywood Sanders will be conducted Saturday, December 29, 2012, at 12:00 noon, at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 7141 Pipeline Road, Camilla. Reverend Leroy Thompson, Jr., will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mitchell County High School Class of 1975.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Willie Frank Carter, Jr., Henry Hayward, Jr., Jerrold Jackson, Terrance Lumpkin, Derrick Williams, Horace Wimberly, Jermaine Wimberly, Deacon Sweetie Willis.
The family is receiving friends at the residence of Ms. Haywood-Sanders sister, Mary Jo Haywood, at 205 North Butler Street, Camilla.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2012, at Castle Camilla, 725 U. S. Highway 19, South, Camilla.
Public viewing will be on Friday, December 28, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., at Robert Jester Mortuary.
