Cora Odoms was born in Newton, Baker County, Georgia, on October 15, 1936 to the late Hattie M. Bodiford and J. C. Carter. She was the oldest of three children. James Keaton preceded her in death; her surviving sister, Betty Jean Franklin Harris, resides in Camilla, Georgia.
Cora was educated in the public schools of Mitchell County, Camilla, Georgia. Although not achieving the educational goals she desired, life learning was a constant desire.
At a young age, she met and married Starley Odoms, Sr., who preceded her in death. Four wonderful children were added to their union. One son, Harrell Odoms, preceded her in death.
Cora was a devoted member of Union Missionary Baptist Church of Camilla, Georgia, where she served in many capacities until her health failed. She served as a Deaconess, was active in Sunday School, member of the Missionary Ministry, Usher's Ministry, Food Service Ministry, and faithfully served in other areas as she was needed.
Cora also served in her community. She was a very active, dedicated, faithful member of Volunteer Workers Club of Camilla, Georgia for over fifty years.
Being a homemaker, she was well known for her ability to cook. She could prepare any tasty dish, anyone in the community desired. She would often bake many kinds of cakes, with as many layers as one would desire. She was also known for baking many different kinds of pies, especially coconut and chocolate.
Being a Godly woman, Cora loved people; babies being the love of her life; and people loved Cora. She had many, many, true friends. She was known for her sweet, caring, quiet personality. Cora loved to travel and would go anywhere, anytime family or friends needed her. During her traveling or being out in the community, she was known for her flair style. She was very talented in matching and coordinating outfits.
Cora passed away very peacefully on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include one sister, Betty J. Harris of Camilla, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Emma L. Hicks Keaton of Camilla, Georgia; one son, Starley (Bonnie) Odoms of Albany, Georgia; two daughters, Joanne Odoms (Melvin) Burns of Camilla, Georgia, Gwenette (Norris) Williams of Enid, Oklahoma; grandsons, Jerrell (Erica) Carr of Port Republic, Maryland, Starling J. Odoms of Augusta, Georgia; one grandson, Kelvin Odoms, preceded her in death; granddaughters, April Brown of St. Louis, Missouri, Nia Odoms of Fayetteville, Georgia, Dr. Tabatha Carr of Yukin, Oklahoma; two great grandsons, Kelvin (Jessica) Odoms, Jr. of Albany, Georgia, Marcell Carr of Desoto, Texas; two great granddaughters, Adrianna Carr, Ziva Carr of Port Republic, Maryland; six great-great grandchildren, Briana, Brittney, Starling, Jr., Austin Odoms, Alah Price, Skye Odoms Davis; two great-great-great grandchildren, Janiya Morris and Marcell Carr, Jr.; many other nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
