Obituary
The funeral service of Corene Thompson will be conducted Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., at the Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church, 6829 St. Mary Road, Baconton, Georgia. Reverend Ananias Hopkins, III, pastor. Interment will follow in St. Mary Memorial Cemetery.
Corene Thompson was born the third child of Simon and Willie Randall Marcus on June 30, 1912.
She was united in holy matrimony to Nathaniel Thompson in February, 1933 and God blessed their union with ten children.
Corene joined the Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized in August, 1929. She was a faithful member and served in many positions. She was a member of the first choir, organized in 1930. She served for many years as youth director, president of the mission, and president of deaconess.
She served as mother of the church for thirty-five years, elected in 1974 and served from that time until her transformation from labor to reward. She also served for many years as youth director as well as president of the Women's Department of the Camilla District Union Meeting.
She leaves cherish memories of her with nine children; thirty-seven grandchildren; forty-seven great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; as well as three loving sisters; two daughters-in-law; one son-in-law; one sister-in-law.
She was preceded in death by one son and two granddaughters.
