Obituary

Doretha Jones, was the fifth child born in the Christian home of the late Deacon Buddie Jones and Sister Leila Rhodes Jones on January 8, 1937 in Mitchell County, Camilla, Georgia.

She received her education from Rockdale High School graduating with the class of 1955.

She confessed CHRIST at an early age and united with the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Camilla, Georgia, under a well devoted leader of God.  She later moved to Miami, Florida, and united with the Providence Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend C. J. Barney.  At Providence, she served in different auxiliaries including the Senior Usher Ministry, the Number One Choir, and the Combined Choir.  In 2002, she returned back to Camilla and reunited with the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.

While in Miami, she was employed with Publix.  After retiring from Publix and moving back to Camilla, she was employed with the Camilla Retirement Home.

Doretha was blessed with two sons, Joe Louis and Lorenzo Jones, Sr.

Doretha used her gift that God gave her to go out sing praises to her master through devotional praises within the Mitchell County community.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Cecil (Annie Ruth) Jones, Frank Jones, B. C. Jones, B. F. Jones.  A beloved niece, Veronica Jones; great niece, LaShonda Jones.

She departed this life on Friday, February 24, 2023, at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville, Georgia.

Those left to cherish her memories include two sons, Joe Louis Jones of Camilla, Georgia, Lorenzo Jones, Sr. of Atlanta, Georgia; nine grandchildren. Kizmet (Dewayne) Burley, Lorenzo Jones, Jeremy Jones, Sr., James Jones, Olivia (Connley) Fryer, Janet Jones, Darryl Jones, Lorenzo Jones III, Antwann Jones; eight great grandchildren; one great-great grandson, Kamrin; three brothers, Eddie (Florence) Jones of Atlanta, Georgia, B. J. (Annie Lee) Jones of Camilla, Georgia, James Jones of Baconton, Georgia; one sister, Bobbie Marcus of Camilla, Georgia; two sisters-in-law, Laura Jones of Miami, Florida, Annie Lois Jones of Camilla, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  Her extended sisters and brothers, the Carr Family children of A. C. and Ollie Carr; two very devoted neighbors, Benjamin Robinson and Crystal Yates.
