IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Earlene B.
Watts
October 8, 1939 – January 4, 2021
Earlene Brown Watts entered this life on October 8, 1939 and was the seventh child born to the late Mr. Alton "Jim" Brown and Mrs. Ophelia Andrews Brown. She was born and raised in Baconton, Georgia where she received her formal education in the Mitchell County School System.
She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age at the St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Baconton, Georgia. She later united in marriage with the late Deacon Lenward P. Watts in 1970 and became a faithful member of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She had an unwavering love for Zion Hill where she tirelessly served as Mother of the Church, Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher, Cook, and Usher until her health failed. She was also an active member of the Camilla Missionary Baptist Association.
Mrs. Watts was employed by the Mitchell County School System where she retired after 20 years of service. She was a treasured school bus driver and lunchroom cook. She later began work at the Mitchell County Head Start as a cook as well. Those who knew Mrs. Watts speak highly of her abilities as a seamstress, her unmatched culinary skills, and even better cakes and baked goods. She was a friend and confidant to all she knew. If you needed an encouraging word about the Lord, a good scripture to read, or even a good laugh, you could always call on her.
She was preceded in death by her four brothers Alton Brown Jr., Robert James Brown, Joseph Brown, and her baby brother Lawrence Brown who she considered her first son. She was also preceded in death by her three sisters Johnnie Mae Christian, Doris Scadlock, and Beatrice Jenkins.
She leaves to cherish her loving daughter, Debra Jenkins Simpson of Lauderdale Lakes, Florida; her granddaughters, Miriam MaKeba Simpson of Albany, Georgia and Jamila White of Lauderdale Lakes, Florida; one sister, Pearl Brown of Camden, New Jersey; one great grandson, Chase Monroe White who she affectionately called "Mr. B" of Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. She will be greatly missed by a host of loving and attentive nieces and nephews whom she considered her own children along with her devoted family and friends.
