Obituary

On July 21, 1936, Earnestine, was born to Rupert Clayton and Tempie Brown Clayton.  She was the third of ten children born to that union.  She was raised in the Branchville Community and educated in the Clayton School.

She gave her life to the Lord early in life and participated in membership at different phases of her life at Oak Grove African Methodist Episcopal Church; Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church; and Genuine Ministry as mother of the church.  As her health began to fail, she continued to hold God's teachings and his word close to her heart and tried to live her life as an example to others.

At age 18, she was united in marriage to Charlie Lee Smith, Sr. and reared five children.  They remained married for forty-four years until his death in 1998.  She later had a brief marriage to Bishop James Williams who also preceded her in death.

She lived a full happy life.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.  She was always ready to share a smile and words of wisdom.  She believed that laughter is good for the soul.

She thoroughly enjoyed working in her garden growing vegetables or her flowers.  When she wasn't gardening she loved to go fishing which she enjoyed for the last time shortly after her birthday last year.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; two brothers, Willmon Clayton and William Clayton; two sisters, Ethel Kelly and Annie Lois Clayton; two husbands, Charlie Lee Smith, Sr. and Bishop James Williams.

She leaves to cherish her memories four daughters and one son, Mary Lee Cobb (John) of Newton, Georgia, Susan Randell (Lee Roy) of Camilla, Georgia, Easter Chester (Ronnie) of Camilla, Georgia, Nita Scott (Eric) of Perry, Florida, Charlie Lee Smith, Jr. (Janice) of Hinesville, Georgia; eleven grandchildren, Terrence Smith, Rita Smith, Jessica Smith, Charlie Renee' Williams, Pamela Randell, Leroy Randell, Kesa Randell, Misty Cobb, Joseph Logan, Ashley Scott Roberts, Erica Scott; eleven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; four sisters, Betty Jean Lumpkin (Leroy), Mammie Burkes Rainey, Lorene Williams (R. J.) and Gloria King Bush; one brother, Lonnie Clayton; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
