Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Francisco Matos Mendez, Sr., affectionately known by all as "Chino", announce his passing on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at the age of 70 years.

Chino was born October 16, 1951 to Leoncio Oquendo and Rumaldez Mendez in Brooklyn, New York.  He attended grade school at the Boys & Girls School of Brooklyn, New York.  After graduating high school, he pursued higher education at Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia in 1973 where he majored in Carpentry.  He worked as a freelance carpenter for the majority of his professional life.  He worked as an employee of Equity Group for 10 years where he retired and resumed carpentry once again to pass the time.  He thoroughly enjoyed working with his hands and it would be difficult to make a pass through Camilla and not see an extension he added to a home or just a home he serviced with repair.

Chino was preceded in death by both parents, sister, brother, daughters (2) Maria Williams and Terrell Mendez; grandchild, Lyuawnna Mendez; a mother-in-law, Ruby Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Rosalyn "Shoon-Shoon" Mendez; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hill and Runetta Hill; brothers-in-law, Benny (Janice) and HB (Krista); god-brother, Willie; his children (11); grandchildren (41); and great-grandchildren (8).
