Furey Franklin,
Jr.
November 27, 1929 – December 1, 2022
Furey Franklin, Jr. was the fourth of eight children born to the late Furey, Sr. and Ella Mae Mills on November 27, 1929 in Grady County, Georgia.
At an early age, he united with the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Camilla, Georgia.
He attended school at Rockdale High School.
On December 2, 1946, Furey, Jr. united in holy hatrimony to his high school sweetheart, Truddie Mae Rowe. To this union one daughter was born, Ella Vera Franklin.
After leaving Camilla and living in Miami and West Virginia, Furey, Jr. and Trudy, along with their daughter, settled in Long Beach, New York. They were staples of their community. Furey, Jr. was employed at Long Beach Memorial Hospital for thirty-four years. With Camilla in their heart, the Franklins made plans to build their forever home and return to Camilla, Georgia.
Furey, Jr. was an entrepreneur. He was the owner and operator of the iconic Steer Inn, and Fleischman's Auto. He enjoyed spending time with family and most of all he lived a full life.
On March 2, 1978, he was elected and installed as Worshipful Master of St. Paul's Lodge 195 A.F. & A.M.
He was a wholesale car dealer for the state of New York. Mr. Franklin worked and retired from Long Beach Memorial in 1993 after thirty-four years of dedicated service as a chief engineer supervisor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Robert Franklin, John Franklin, Calvin Franklin, Sr.; three sisters, Ethel Lee Johnson, Arie Lee Marcus, and Ann Eva Robinson.
Surrounded by love ones, Furey, Jr. departed this life on Thursday, December 1, 2022.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories, a sister, Dora Bradley of Camilla, Georgia; a son, Brahim John Franklin of Boca Raton, Florida; two loving and devoted granddaughters whom he raised as his own, Yolanda Franklin (Henry, Jr.) Cochran of Camilla, Georgia, Tyisha Franklin (Adam) Martin of Roanoke, Virginia; eight grandchildren, Donovan Franklin Hutchinson of Long Beach, New York, Khojmik Gause of Roanoke, Virginia, Amari Franklin Cochran, Aniah (Javelle) Franklin Cochran, Jacob Cochran of Long Beach, New York/Camilla, Georgia, I'Slyn Gardner of Roanoke, Virginia, Brahim Franklin, Jr. of Boca Raton, Florida; one great grandchild, Cassius Lee Franklin Rutledge of Camilla, Georgia; very close cousin who loved each other as brothers, Ellis (Christine) Mills of Camilla, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
