George "Spooky" Jenkins, 70, died peacefully August 31, 2018, with family by his side at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia.
George was born August 8, 1948 in Camilla, Georgia to George and Ella Jenkins. He was one of five siblings.
He graduated from Camilla Consolidated School in 1966, and continued his education at Albany State College, graduating in June 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration.
In 1971 George married his high school sweetheart Alelia Cooper, and the couple became parents to three wonderful children, daughters Chandra and Alana, and son Carlton Jenkins.
Shortly after graduating from college, George entered the United Sates Air Force, serving for four years. Upon termination from the Air force, George went to work for Firestone Tire Company, Albany, Georgia and later Hercules Bumper Company, Pelham, Georgia. George decided his true calling was teaching. Following a long family tradition, he spent twenty-three years in the classroom at Mitchell County Middle School.
George was an avid sports enthusiast, playing baseball and football in high school. Later coaching track for the high school. He was a passionate Atlanta Braves Baseball fan; a love he inherited from his mother. George turned a childhood hobby of photography into a second career that he shared with his family, locally known as Jenkins & Jenkins Photography.
He is survived by his wife and soulmate Alelia of forty-seven years; daughters, Chandra and Alana of Brunswick, Georgia; son, Carlton of Camilla, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Kashontra and grandchildren, LaToriah, Darrius, and Roderick. Siblings, Mary J. Warren of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Joyce J. Stanford of Atlanta, Georgia, Gloria J. Edwards (Samuel) of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Harold Jenkins (Silvana) of Camilla, Georgia; brothers-in-law, Eddie L. Whitehead (Shelia) of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Lucious Jackson (Patricia) of Albany, Georgia; and a large and loving extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins.
The family is grateful for the outpouring sentiments of heartfelt condolences, flowers, food, and monetary donations.
