Obituary

GEORGIE ANN MERRITT was born April 16, 1950.  On this day, she was introduced to the world as the second child born from the union of Mr. Stephen Walter and Mrs. Arilla Pinkney Smiley.  Both parents preceded her in death.

Georgie graduated from Camilla Consolidated School (CCS) in Camilla, Georgia where she treasured being a majorette in the marching band.  In 1968, she graduated from CCS.  Georgie acquired diplomas in cosmetology and phlebotomy at Thomas Technical College in Thomasville, Georgia.

Her healthcare training led her to a career as a nursing assistance with the Camilla Retirement Village.  She is greatly known as "Ms. Georgeann" to the hundreds of children she nurtured and taught at Georgia Williams Nursery and Childcare Center in Camilla, Georgia where she served as a preschool teacher.

The angels sing when we proclaim Jesus Christ as our Savior.  Georgie accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age at Union Baptist Church in Camilla, Georgia where she served as a faithful member, as youth director, and senior choir member until her health failed.

On December 26, 1970, Georgie Ann was united with Karl Williams Merritt in holy matrimony.  From that union they were blessed with one child, a daughter, Monica.  A few years later, the marriage dissolved.

When the sunset of life comes, we should remember our loved ones as they lived.  Death is a new beginning.  We shall remember Georgie for her witty jovial nature, fun loving mannerisms, charm, and love of fashion.  If you asked Georgie, she would say "Two Tears in a bucket...."  That was her way.  She believed in laughing, not crying.  On February 21, 2014, the Lord called his daughter to her heavenly home.

She leaves to cherish her memories a daughter, Dr. Monica Gilbert of Hinesville, Georgia; granddaughter, Callista Gilbert; sisters, Brenda Smiley of Camilla, Georgia, Jacquelyn Briscoe of Woodville, Georgia, Janice Williams of Piscataway, New Jersey (honorary sister); nieces and nephews, Gena Grier of Woodville, Georgia, Steven (Sarah) Briscoe of Fort Campbell, Tennessee, Melanie Harper (DeRon) of Richmond Hill, Georgia; uncles and aunts, I. C. (Viola) Pinkney of Fort Myers, Florida, Emerson (Margret) Pinkney of Fort Myers, Florida, Matthew (Louise) Pickney of Camilla, Georgia, Melissa Redden of Fort Myers, Florida, Annie Lou Rice of Fort Myers, Florida, Irene (William) Spence of Pelham, Georgia, Christine (Matthew) Greene of Tacoma Park, Maryland; a host of great nieces, a great nephew, cousins, and friends.

I am home in Heaven, dear ones
Oh, so happy and so bright
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this Everlasting Light.

All the pain and grief are over
Every restless yeaming past
I am now at peace forever
Safely Home in Heaven at last.

Dear one, do not grieve so sorely
For I love you dearly still
Try to look beyond earth's shadows
Pray to trust our Father's will.

When your work is completed
He will gently call you Home
Oh! the rapture of that meeting
Oh, the joy to see you come.
