Obituary

Hattie Mae Clark was born on July 20, 1947 to the late Jake Barnes and Anne Lisa Davis Barnes of Mitchell County.

Hattie transitioned this life on September 14, 2021 at Jackson North Medical Center in Miami, Florida.

Hattie accepted Christ at a very young age. Her favorite two scriptures were: Isaiah 55:8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declared the Lord". The second scripture is Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 "To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: 2 A time to be born, and a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to harvest what has been planted".

Hattie was a big advocate for education for her children and grandchildren. She insisted that they took education seriously. She loved her family very much. Often you could hear her say that "Blood is Thicker than Water" when she would talk about family. Everywhere Hattie went she was always the life of the party. Her laughter was contagious to all around her. Hattie had a heart for giving and helping people especially her family members.

Her passion for giving and helping others led her to become a Certified Nurse Aide at Jackson Memorial Hospital & Mt. Sinai Medical Center. She served her patients with great care. Hattie was often told that she should pursue a nursing degree to continue her excellent treatment for patients who needed special care. She later resigned from the hospital to start her own private duty service. She was an instant success. Her patients loved her so much. Many of those patients saw Hattie as a family member. She retired from her private duty business in 2016.

Hattie was married to her former spouse, Walter Frank Clark Sr. for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James McArthur Murray; five brothers, Billie Greene Barnes, Curtis Lee Barnes, Luke "Pap" Jake Barnes, James Barnes, Willie W. Williams; and one sister, Lucille Burns.

She leaves cherished memories to her family, three children, Valerie Miller of Augusta, Georgia, Walter Clark, Jr., Michael Clark of Miami, Florida; a blessing of grandchildren she raised as her own; three sisters, Pansy (Henry) Johnson, Annie Mae King, Gertrude Rhodes of Camilla, Georgia, and a bonus sister, Patricia (Chris) Childs, Camilla, Georgia; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
