Howard Louis Ross, Sr. was born November 1, 1943 in Camilla, Georgia to the late Willie Lee (W. L.) Ross and Ramona Burley Ross. He was fondly known by his family as "Beetle".
Howard loved working with his hands and was employed as a construction maintenance technician at Sunnyland Packing Company in Thomasville, Georgia. He also worked as a painter and carpenter until he was disabled by a stroke. Thereafter, he took up his second love, gardening. He was known for sharing his large tomatoes and collard greens throughout the neighborhood.
Howard fell asleep in death on June 30, 2017 at his residence. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur James Ross, Willie Frank Ross, and Joe L. Ross; and one sister, Rubie Lee Ross Shelton.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of fifty-three years, Leola Brown Ross, Thomasville, Georgia; children, Rose M. Ross of Thomasville, Georgia, Howard Louis Ross, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, Latoya N. Vincent (Michael) of Houston, Texas and Charity L. Weston (Edward) of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren, Heather R. Brock (Stephorous), Rachel Parson, Adrien Parson, Joshua Ross Reagen, Dazirae C. Simmons, Mathew Weston, Roslyn Weston; great grandchildren, Kyndal Brock and Brendan Brock; siblings, Corine Robinson (Willie) of Albany, Georgia, Annie Doris Allen, Mathis Ross of Camilla, Georgia, Jimmy Ross of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Freddie Ross (Mary) of Camilla, Georgia; trusted caregiver, Thelma Daniels.
