Ms. Irene Williams Wright was called from this earthly life to eternal life with Christ Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Mitchell County Hospital, Camilla, Georgia.
She was born March 18, 1937 in Camilla, Georgia, the oldest of seven children of Mary Bentley and Butler Williams. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Joel Wright, Sr.
Ms. Wright confessed Christ at an early age at New Hope #2 Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend Butts; presently, Reverend Alfred Smith, III. While at New Hope, she worked faithfully with the church choir.
"Dooney", as she was affectionately called, was gainfully employed by the Mitchell County Board of Education (Camilla Consolidated High and later Mitchell County High School) for over thirty-five years as a custodian by profession.
Ms. Wright was a phenomenal woman who enjoyed reliving personal life experiences, laughing among family and friends, feeding the hungry (loved cooking) and worshipping her God. Her missionary work included singing praises with "The Gospel Stones". She hated to hear anybody say he/she was hungry; her home was EVERYBODY's home. She constantly "sent up bricks" for she knew that this was her earthly home and that family, friends and Jesus awaited her at her heavenly home.
Preceding her in death included two sons, Joel Wright, Jr., Timothy Hayes; four siblings; one sister-in-law; three brothers-in-law.
She leaves to cherish her memories four children, Evon Richardson, Annie Doris West (William), Maryrene Wright and Chiquita Wright of Camilla, Georgia; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; three sisters, Roberta Willingham (the late William III) of Pelham, Georgia, Emma Langford (Grady) of Atlanta, Georgia and Carolyn Cooper (Richard Acree) of Albany, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
