IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James "Bubba"
Brown, Sr.
August 29, 1941 – August 25, 2023
James "Bubba Brown, Sr. was born on August 29, 1941, to John Brown and Lillie Mae Clark Brown who preceded him in death. He had seven sisters, Johnnie Mae Neely, Lillie Jackson, Retha Butler, Cleone Willis, Mable Jackson, Maude Wade, and Doris Sanders; four brothers, Mack Brown, Sr. Jim Brown, Sr., Charlie Brown, and Frederick Brown, all who preceded him in death. He is the last of the clan. He accepted Christ and was a member and Deacon at Oak Grove Missionary Church where he served until his health failed. He attended school in Roberta, Georgia, until moving to Camilla, Georgia where he attended school at Oak Grove. He was joined in holy matrimony with Rutha Mae Fluellen on July 23, 1961. To this union two children were born, James Brown, Jr. (who preceded him in death), and Tammy Lenette Brown. Through thick and thin, the good and the bad, they held on to what God ordained and celebrated 62 years of marriage.
James was a carpenter by trade. He never finished high school, but owned his own business, Brown Construction Company. He did roofing, room add-ons, floors and more. He was responsible for many housing and business projects in Camilla and the surrounding area.
During his younger days he had his share of good drinks and good times in this world, however, let it be known; everybody who knew him knew it was never a good thing or a good time to get him stirred up he was a fury hard to tame, but thanks be to God for a wonderful change. He became wise counsel for many young people in the family, in the community and in his church because he didn't mind disclosing the mistakes he made. His favorite pass time was spent sitting in his recliner watching any western, Blue Blood and the Atlanta Braves. His favorite word was "Rutha Mae"; he called her name even in his sleep!
He passed from this earthly life to his heavenly home on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Archbold Living Facility in Camilla, Georgia.
He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife, Rutha Mae Brown, Camilla, Georgia; one daughter, Tammy Brown Bryant, Powder Springs, Georgia. Six grandchildren, Gerald Griffin (Diane), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Frederick Quimbley, Jr., Washington, DC., LaQuitta Alston (DJ), James Brown, III (Gabby), LaShawna Brown, all of Atlanta, Georgia., and Cherryetta Williams, Camilla, Georgia. Nine great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Mamie Brown, Mary Ann Brown, Susie Williams and Ollie Burley (Ulysee). Four brothers-in-law, Henderson Fluellen, Earnest Fluellen (Mercedes) Ira Fluellen, Ulysee (Ollie); a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends including very devoted friends, Douglas and Helen Clayton, James Griffin, and Tyrone "Pee Wee" Swan. Devoted neighbors Carol and Derek Hadley, and cousins "The Gold Dust Twins" Liz Hawkins and Larcene Dawson.
