BIOGRAPHY

Janice Carol Davis Hicks was born on December 30, 1952 in Mitchell County, Georgia, to Mrs. Ophelia Dawson Davis and the late Willie B. "Gator" Davis.

Janice received her education at Camilla Consolidated High School where she was an avid varsity basketball player.  She graduated from high school in June, 1970 and attended Fort Valley State College, now Fort Valley State University, earning a BS degree in Social Work.

Janice was united in holy matrimony to Darryl Hicks, Sr., who preceded her in death.  To this union three children were born.  She traveled the world, experienced life, and learned many different cultures with her family.  She was like a precious jewel while supporting her family.  She was the "light" in any room.

"Red", as she was affectionately called, was employed with the Mitchell County Department of Family and Children Services, retiring on August 31, 2009.  She devoted thirty-four years of service providing and ensuring that the children of Mitchell County received adequate care.  While being employed with Mitchell County DFCS, she earned numerous awards for her superb work ethics, professionalism, huge smile, and heart of gold which touched the lives of many children and parents.  She loved her job and the children and parents respected her.

She confessed Christ and united with the Beulah Missionary Baptist Church of Camilla, Georgia.

On Saturday, February 4, 2012, God picked a very beautiful flower from His garden and carried it home to be with him.  This beautiful flower was named Janice Carol Davis Hicks.

Hicks of Atlanta, Georgia; a mother, Ophelia Davis of Camilla, Georgia; five sisters, Phyllis Davis of Miami, Florida, Linda Davis of Camilla, Georgia, Patricia Jackson (Oscar) of Albany, Georgia, Bernita Thompson (Freddie) of Camilla, Georgia, Brigitte Davis of Atlanta, Georgia; a brother, Bishop Michael Davis (Margaret) of Atlanta, Georgia; a mother-in-law, Inez Hicks of Camilla, Georgia; aunts, Margaret Wallace of Pelham, Georgia, Ella Vera Smith of Daytona Beach, Florida, Emma Dawson of Trenton, New Jersey, Judy Dawson of Leary, Georgia, Fannie Dawson of Columbus, Georgia; uncle, Willie Frank Davis (Alice) of Camilla, Georgia; three grandchildren, Dania Hicks, Makealya Hicks, Maqiah Harris; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The Broken Chain

We little knew that evening that
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
in death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you,
the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories,
your love is still our guide;
and though we cannot see you,
you are always at our side.

Our Family chain is broke,
and nothing seems the same;
but as God calls us one by one,
the Chain will link again.
