Obituary

John Henry Florence, Jr., son of the late John Henry Florence, Sr. and Luretha Whitfield Florence, was born June 22, 1940 in Mitchell County, Georgia.

Affectionately known as "Jitter", he grew up in the Branchville Community and attended school in Mitchell County, Georgia until he was fourteen when he moved to Ocala, Florida and attended school in Marion County, Florida.

Upon returning to Camilla, "Jitter" became very committed to and involved in the community.  He confessed Christ and joined the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board for twenty years.  In addition, he was a forty-year member of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Masonic Lodge of Georgia, Sale City Lodge #267.

"Jitter" was a hard worker and great provider for his family.  He operated a forklift at Firestone for eighteen years.  He was also a school bus driver for the Mitchell County School System before retiring after fifteen years.  However, he is best remembered as a Master Barber who operated House of Styles for more than fifty years.

He will also be remembered as an avid sportsman who loved participating in his favorite hobbies:  motorcyle riding, fishing and hunting.

But "Jitter's" greatest love and devotion were saved for his family, especially for late wife Carrie Frazier Florence (to whom he was married from June 19, 1965 until her death in 2004) and for his five children and the niece he and Carrie raised.

He departed this life on Friday, May 3, 2013, at Mitchell County Hospital.

One sister, Hazel Florence Thomas, preceded him in death.

He is survived by those five children and niece:  Danny Florence of Hollywood, Florida, John Henry Florence, III (Candy) of Camilla, Georgia, Andrea Florence of Atlanta, Georgia, Pamela Florence of Camilla, Georgia, Fredrick Florence (Amber) of Atlanta, Georgia and Lessie Frazier (niece) of Atlanta, Georgia.

He is also survived by six grandchildren:  Laquesha Yates, Johnesha Florence, Jeremiah Florence, Brayden Farrar, Tolonika Florence and Kingston Florence; four siblings:  Calnosia Florence of Camilla, Georgia, Curtis Sims Florence of Mascotte, Florida, Johnny Mae Florence Allen of New York, New York and Linda Florence Baker of Orlando, Florida; two aunts:  Helen Brownlee of Hollywood Florida, and Annie Mae Colston of Ocala, Florida and one uncle:  Don Colston, Ocala, Florida; five sisters-in-law, Janice Sims Florence, Mary Helen Sheppard, Ossie Mae Frazier, Shelene Fraier, and Lena Frazier; three brothers-in-law, Otis Thomas, Golden Sheppard and Fred Frazier; many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and relatives.

He is also survived by his special friend, Daphne Mobley, and many other friends.

His journey's just begun

Don't think of him as gone away
his journey's just begun,
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.

Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.

Think how he must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.

And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched...
for nothing loved is ever lost
and he was loved so much.
