Joyce Ann Donerson

Joyce Ann Donerson, a beloved and spirited soul, was born to Annie Maud Donerson on July 29, 1958 in the warm embrace of Albany, Georgia. She passed away on August 16, 2026, in Newark, New Jersey, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and joy that will forever be cherished by all who knew her.

Prior to being predeceased by Annie Cutliff, Joyce was nurtured in a family that valued love and togetherness. Despite the losses she faced, Joyce’s heart remained full and open; a testament to her enduring strength and grace.

Joyce’s life was a tapestry of vibrant experiences and deep connections. She attended Central High School where she found her passion for dance, becoming a majorette lighting up every stage with her energy and enthusiasm. Her love for dance was only rivaled by her culinary talents, as she delighted in cooking meals holding steadfast to her southern roots and later incorporating other cuisines of the African diaspora into her natural talent. Her meals brought comfort and joy to those blessed to have had tasted her cooking!

A devout churchgoer, Joyce found solace and community in her faith, sharing her joyful spirit and generosity with fellow congregants. Her commitment to her faith was reflected in her everyday actions, always extending a helping hand and a compassionate heart to those in need. She continued her spiritual journey even while housed in an extended care facility, bringing hope and joy to fellow residents, clergy, and staff.

Her professional journey saw her dedicate other talents and care to the Woodbridge State School, and also as a Security Guard at a Head Start preschool, where her warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on both colleagues and children alike.

Joyce was a devoted mother, leaving behind her three beloved children Jukil Donerson, Haneefah Donerson, and Ebony Dash. Her role as a mother was one she cherished deeply, and her love extended to her ten grandchildren, and three great grandchildren who were the light of her life and the source of endless pride and joy.

Though Joyce never married, her life was rich with love and laughter, shared with family and friends who became family. Her contagious smile, ability to find joy in the little things, her enduring spirit, and being the life of the party will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Joyce will be dearly missed as her legacy continues to inspire those she leaves behind: her uncle Eugene Donerson; eldest sister, Amelia Slater, eldest brother, Herbert Donerson, youngest brother, Clemon Cutliff, youngest sister, Valentina Cutliff; children, grandchildren, great grandchildren; niece, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews; and a host of cousins as well as extended family and friends.
