Kathryn Ann Hicks Lofton was born on June 19, 1942 to the late Benjamin Hicks and Marie L. Hicks in Camilla, Georgia.  She was the oldest of three siblings.

At an early age, she joined Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in Camilla, Georgia.  She was a faithful steward and member.

Her educational journey was in the Mitchell County School System beginning first grade at the Rockdale School in 1948.  She was a 1960 honor graduate of Camilla Consolidated High School.  After high school she attended Fort Valley State College later transferring to Albany State College and receiving a B.S. in Science Education.  She taught Biology and Physical Science for thirty years in the Mitchell-Baker School System.

Kathryn is a life member of the NAACP, and a retired educator.

Kathryn transitioned to her heavenly home on Monday, December 19, 2022, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

Kathryn, affectionately called "Kappie", leaves a legacy of love, kindness, and good will for family and friends.

Kathryn is survived by her daughter, Tracey Lofton of Camilla, Georgia; a sister, Emma Hicks Keaton of Camilla, Georgia; an uncle, Fred Hicks of Camilla, Georgia; aunts, Ada Hicks Stevens of Miami, Florida and Sally Hicks of Trenton, New Jersey; niece, Tiffany Hicks of Hammond, Indiana; nephew, Vincent Hicks of Mansfield, Texas; a special friend, Susan Luke of Camilla, Georgia; and a host of cousins, friends, relatives, and godchildren. Last but not least, she leaves her devoted German Shepherd dog "Josie" that she loved unconditionally.
