IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Katie Mae
Vicks
April 1, 1922 – November 27, 2017
Mother Katie Mae Vicks or "Miss Katie" as she was affectionately called departed this life for her heavenly home on Monday, November 27, 2017, after a lengthy illness.
She was born on April 1, 1922, in Camilla, Georgia, to loving parents, Nehemiah Florence Sr. and Minnie Johnson Florence. She was the fourth of twelve children.
At an early age she accepted CHRIST and was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church. Later in life she married Lonnie Vicks Sr. and to that union eight children were born. After marriage she moved her membership to Oak Grove Baptist Church (now Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church). She served faithfully in the senior choir and on the Mothers' Board until her health began to decline.
Mother Vicks also served her family faithfully. She served tirelessly as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to every person she touched. She was hard working and made sure she passed those traits on to her children and grandchildren. She was a "Wonderful Mother."
Mother Vicks is preceded in death by: Ten of her siblings; her spouse, Lonnie Vicks Sr.; and one grandson, Timothy D. Vicks.
She leaves to cherish her memories three sons: Lonnie Vicks Jr. (Bea), Matthews, North Carolina; Reverend Vernon D. Vicks (Irene), Shalimar, Florida; Reverend Wayne E. Vicks (Rosa), Decatur, Georgia; five daughters: Jeannine Vicks, Thomasville, Georgia, Marshaline Vicks and Glenda Vicks Givens both of Detroit, Michigan, Pamelia Williams and Deborah Vicks both of Camilla, Georgia; one sister: Christine King, Detroit, Michigan; eight grandchildren: Victoria Fleming, Andrew Williams, Jason Vicks, Vernetta Mack, Danielle Vicks-Williams, Jennifer Troupe, Jessica Vicks and Christopher Keaton; eleven great grands: Shannon, Victor, Ciara, Maiya, Ronnie Jr., Jayla, Myles, Jeniyah, Blake, Garrett and Gavin; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
