The funeral service of Kirk Terrance Peoples, will be conducted Saturday, April 3, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., at Saint Peter African Methodist Episcopal Church, 165 East Stephens Street, Camilla, Georgia. Reverend Gloria Walden will officiate. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Stewards and Trustees of St. Peter A.M.E. Church and Staff of Autry State Prison.
Active Pallbearers will be John Michael Bradley, Winfred Dukes, Andrew Hargrove, Jr., Gregory Moreland, Sean Sheppard, Renwick Vicks, Tyrone Walls, Timothy Wilson.
Mr. Kirk Terrance Peoples was born to the late Mr. Willie C. Peoples, Jr. and Mrs. Thelma McMillan Peoples on July 21, 1956 in Richard County, Columbia South Carolina.
At an early age he accepted Christ and joined St. Peter A.M.E. Church where he served on the Trustee Board, Stewards Board and the Sons of Allen.
He attended Camilla Consolidated School and graduated from Mitchell County High School Class of 1974 in Camilla, Georgia. He later attended Savannah State College, Savannah, Georgia and received a BS Degree in Marketing and Management.
Mr. Peoples pledged and became a brother of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. during the spring quarter 1976 while he attended Savannah State College. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army serving a tour of duty in Wonja, Japan. Upon returning to Camilla, Kirk pursued a career with CSX Railroad for several years before becoming employed with the Georgia Department of Corrections at Autry State Prison in Pelham, Georgia.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Mary Alice Grissom in 1997.
He departed this life on Friday, March 26, 2010, at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville, Georgia.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Mary Alice Peoples of Camilla, Georgia; two sons, Demetrius Peoples of Hollywood, Florida, Quinn Williams of Atlanta, Georgia; four stepchildren, Roney Mays (Vakesha) of Camilla, Georgia, Shalanda Quimbley (Stevie) of Putney, Georgia, Erica Young (Derrick), Shay White of Camilla, Georgia; a devoted brother, Samuel McMillan Peoples (Marie) of Camilla, Georgia; a sister, Gail P. Franklin of Camilla, Georgia; sister-in-law, Erma A. Jackson of Camilla, Georgia; a faithful mother-in-law, Mrs. Ida C. Grissom of Camilla, Georgia; six loving aunts, Mrs. Sally P. Hicks of Willingboro, New Jersey, Mrs. Sarah Rearden of Columbia, South Carolina, Mrs. Naomi Logan of Trenton, New Jersey, Mrs. Martha Booker of Chicago, Illinois, Mrs. Elizabeth Adams of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Kay P. Wilson of Jacksonville, Florida; two uncles, Mr. George Peoples of Camilla, Georgia, Mr. Byron Booker of Chicago, Illinois; special nieces and nephews, Shadondra, Derika, I'morri, Ziah, Luke III, Kayden; four step grandchildren he adored, Karissma, De'Arrius, Landen, Monterrian; four brothers-in-law, Harry Grissom, Jimmy Grissom, Randy Grissom, Rudolph Grissom; numerous loving cousins, relatives, friends; supportive friends like brothers and sisters, Gregory Moreland, John Michael Bradley, Andrew Hargrove, Jr., Nathan Haywood, Bridgitte Jenkins, Johnnie Miller; adopted godmothers, Mrs. Marvene Bradley, Mrs. Claretha Vicks.
Preceding him in death included a brother, Samuel Jackson; one brother-in-law, Glenn "Skeeter" Grissom; supportive friend, Armel Poitier.
The family is receiving friends at the home of Mr. Peoples stepdaughter, Shay White, at 214 South Scott Street, Camilla.
