Her home and her presence carried welcome.

Lucile Crawford Silas passed away on September 30, 2026, at Christian City Assisted Living in Union City, Georgia. She was born on May 18, 1942, and lived a life marked by warmth, candor, faith, and a generous heart that made room for everyone around her.

At an early age, Lucile confessed Christ and united with St. John Missionary Baptist Church, a foundation that remained part of her life and spirit. She was known as a very outgoing and outspoken woman, someone with a kind heart who never met a stranger. Her home and her presence carried welcome. She was the kind of person who would feed the whole neighborhood, and she was just as well known for her loving insistence that hands be washed before anyone entered the kitchen. Cooking was one of her great joys, and that joy was something she shared freely.

Lucile worked at Royal Poultry for 20 years and later at Goody's Manufacturing Company for 18 years, a place she loved. Her years of work reflected her steadiness and commitment, and those who knew her also knew the pride she took in doing her part faithfully.

She enjoyed keeping a clean house, traveling, and telling others about the places she had seen. She especially loved speaking of her travels to Las Vegas, the Bahamas, and Cape Town, South Africa. She also loved traveling with Delta Airlines, and those memories clearly brought her happiness. Whether at home in her kitchen or away on a trip, Lucile embraced life with energy and delight.

Preceding her in death was a daughter, Gladys Sweet; two sons, Robert Bush and Keith Silas; a granddaughter, Santrell Sweet; a very special nephew, Howard Lumpkins.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Zellia (Michael) Ross; her sons, Coral Crawford and Anthony Crawford; and her daughter Bonnie Silas, her goddaughter, who held a special place in her life. She is also survived by her sisters, Ida (Joe) Lumpkins, Betty (Johnny) Jackson, Gwen (Charlie) Dixon, Vera Price, and Lillie (Johnny) Knight; and by her brothers, John Henry Crawford Jr., Charles (Brenda) Crawford, Ray Crawford, Nelson Crawford, Carl Flourney, Spencer Flourney, and Shelby Flourney; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Crawford.

Lucile Crawford Silas will be remembered for her open heart, her strong voice, her deep faith, and the way she made people feel cared for. Her life was full of movement, devotion, hard work, and hospitality. Her memory remains in the meals she served, the stories she told, the love she gave, and the many lives made brighter by her presence.
