IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lucile Hill
Toombs
June 22, 1927 – December 27, 2022
Mrs. Lucile Hill Toombs was the daughter of the late John Henry Lumpkin and Ophelia Hill. She was a life-long resident of Camilla (Mitchell County) Georgia.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Jetson (Buddy) Toombs, Sr. in September, 1945. To this union three children were added.
Mrs. Toombs began her formal education at Rockdale School in Camilla, Georgia. Mrs. Toombs had a desire to become a nurse (care-giver), but this dream was never realized due to domestic responsibilities.
Her first phase of employment began with Baconton Pecan Nut House in Baconton, Georgia. She continued her work ethics in the Mitchell County Hospital Laundromat and Draffin Clothing Manufacturing. When her job shut down she turned to what was always in her heart to care for others. She started a child care service when she was fifty years old, which lasted until 2010.
Mrs. Toombs began her church affiliation when she accepted Christ at an early age at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, in Baconton, Georgia. In later years she moved her membership to Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she served as an usher, and later a deaconess.
Mrs. Toombs, beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother passed peacefully at her home on December 27, 2022 at the age of 95.
She will be remembered by her family as a loving, giving (virtuous woman) who looked out for the welfare of her husband and family.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: John Frank Lumpkin, John Henry Lumpkin, Mamie Sue Willingham, Lincoln Lumpkin, Eddie Lee Lumpkin and Annette Lumpkin Wright.
She leaves to cherish her memories three children, Jetson(Gloria) Toombs, Jr., of Augusta, Georgia, Virginia (Otis Larry-deceased) Quimbley and Julia A. Toombs of Camilla, Georgia; grandchildren, Antonio (Shaletha) Pinkins of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Tory Sebastian (Abigail) Quimbley of Jacksonville, Florida, Travis Darnell Quimbley of Camilla, Georgia, Ms. Shakendra Toombs of Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. LaToya Shenee' Toombs of Silver Spring, Maryland; several great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; siblings, Julius (Dora) Lumpkin, Antonio (Natalie-deceased) Lumpkin, Hettie Mae Jackson, Claretha Saffold, Almaree (David) Laster, Portia Harvey, Rosetta Lumpkin and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
