IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lucille
Burns
January 21, 1952 – July 24, 2020
Lucille Burns was born January 21, 1952 to the late Jake Barnes and Annie Liza Davis Barnes of Mitchell County.
Lucille accepted Christ at an early age. She became an active member at Beulah Missionary Baptist Church, in Camilla, Georgia where she sang in the choir for several years. After many years of serving the church, she decided to move her membership to Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church where her family served. She was an advocate for Sunday school and soon afterwards became known as the "Candy Lady". While serving at Zion Grove, she used her artistic talents to bring alive many church programs. After completing her mission at Zion Grove, she found her new church home at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
Lucille graduated from Camilla Consolidated High School in 1970. After realizing her passion for children, she decided to sow back into her community. In 1978, Lucille became a paraprofessional at Mitchell County Elementary School in Camilla, Georgia and served in that role for 21 years. During those years, she led with kindness, good humor and concern for the well-being of all her students. In 1999, she departed her beloved role after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Lucille was a resilient woman. She lived life with compassion, love, and a giving heart. Her determination was one of her best features, because there was absolutely nothing she could not or would not overcome. She was more than a conqueror. If perseverance was a person, it would definitely be Lucille Burns. In addition to her resilience, she was a good and faithful servant.
Lucille was dedicated to her family. She lived by the saying, "blood is thicker than water, but blood is not thicker than what is right." She was a woman of virtue and courage. She was a strong woman. She loved hard and always gave her best no matter the situation. She sacrificed her last for many she loved. Her selflessness and warm heart gained her many friends along the years. Lucille was always ready for a good laugh. Her presence could light up any room. Lucille even got joy in feeding her family and friends. She could feed an army easily with her loving hands.
Lucille was a victorious breast cancer survivor twice. Unfortunately, our beloved left this earthly realm on July 24, 2020 after a battle with metastatic pancreatic cancer. Though her soul has departed from her body, we find peace in knowing she is resting in the Lord's arms. She will be truly missed.
She was preceded in death by five brothers: Billie Greene Barnes, Curtis Lee Barnes, Luke "Pap" Jake Barnes, James Barnes, and Willie W. Williams.
Lucille married her former spouse, Melvin Burns Sr. in 1971.
She leaves cherished memories to her family. She birth four beautiful children and gained 2 bonus children, Melvin (Natisha) Burns Jr, Gregory Burns, Terris Burns, Cicely Burns, Jasmyne Burns Reynolds, and JaShara Burns. She has 7 grandchildren, Marquis (Sade) Burns, Mya Burns, Madison Burns, Bryce Burns (deceased), Christian Reynolds, Maxwell Burns, and Kaleb Harris. Along with one great grandchild: K'la Burns.
