The funeral service of Novella Gilbert Nixon will be conducted Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at 11:00 a.m., at the Saint John Missionary Baptist Church, 130 Newton Street, Camilla. Reverend Eddie L. Jackson will officiate. Interment will follow in the Oakview Cemetery.
Daughter of the late Reverend Elmore Gilbert and Arcie Ola Prince Gilbert, Mrs. Nixon was born January 27, 1924 in Camilla, Georgia. She was the third oldest of eight children. Four siblings - Odessa G. Brown, Evelyn G. Covington, Mildred G. Ward, and Elmore Gilbert, preceded her in death.
She was married to John Auldon Nixon. From their union one child, Jerome P. Nixon Jester, was born.
Mrs. Nixon joined the Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church of Camilla, Georgia at an early age. Later she joined the Saint John Missionary Baptist Church of Camilla, where she attended until her health began to fail but continued in support.
She worked diligently at Modern Cleaners until her health failed.
She departed this life on Thursday, August 28, 2008, at Pelham Parkway Nursing Home in Pelham, Georgia.
She is survived by a devoted son, Jerome P. Nixon Jester of Camilla, Georgia; two daughters-in-law, Dorothy O. Clark of Moultrie, Georgia and Sandra A. Hall of Newton, Georgia; two grandchildren, Cynthia A. Nixon of Arlington, Virginia and Jerome P. Nixon Jester, II of Albany, Georgia; one great granddaughter, Jamaya F. Jester of Camilla, Georgia; two sisters, Ollie Mae G. Carr and Arcie Ola G. Whitfield of Camilla, Georgia; one brother, Oliver Gene Gilbert of Miami, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and care-givers.
