Pinkins

Obituary

Mrs. Palestine Harris Pinkins was born to Mrs. Pearl Eva Redden Harris and the late Roy Harris, Sr. on February 8, 1946, in Mitchell County, Georgia.  She was affectionately called "Moot" by everyone who knew her.

She was raised in a God fearing home and confessed her love for Christ at a young age.  Palestine was a member of Saint John Missionary Baptist Church where she served until her health failed.  She was also a member of Georgia American Legion Auxiliary Post #518.

She received her education in the Mitchell County School System.

Palestine was united in holy matrimony to Edward Pinkins in 1962.  To this union, two daughters were born: Sheila "Linda" and Mynitha "Prudy."  Also, one baby boy, Duane "Wayne", was added to the family.

Palestine was a career homemaker.  She was a very good cook and kept a tidy home inside and out - with a beautiful flower garden.

In her nurturing and caring nature, she helped a lot of people including rearing half of her siblings along with four other nieces and nephews.  She was a true definition of a strong black woman and will be greatly missed.

On Saturday morning, October 5, 2013, Palestine was found resting at her residence, having already transitioned to her heavenly home.

Preceding her in death: her father and two sisters, Annie Ruth Harris and Willa Dean Harris.

She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories, two daughters, Sheila Pinkins (Frederick, Sr.) King of Norfolk, Virginia, and Mynitha Pinkins (Jarvis, Sr.) Thomas of Albany, Georgia; one son, Duane Smith of Camilla, Georgia; two children she reared, Travis Harris and Turkessia Harris of Camilla, Georgia; a mother, Pearl Eva Harris of Camilla, Georgia; three sisters, Maggie Harris and Susie Harris both of Camilla, Georgia, and Mary Harris of Jacksonville, Florida; three brothers, Roy Harris, Jr. of Camilla, Georgia, Willie James Harris of Albany, Georgia, and Artis (Marian) Redden of Palm Coast, Florida; grandchildren, Monique King (Eugene) Fenner, Melissa King, Frederick King, Jr., Melody Thomas, Jarvis Thomas, Jr., Alonzo Hughley, and Chaney Porter; great grandchildren, Iyannah, Nyla, and Nehemiah; sisters-in-law, Mary Pinkins Bridges of Miami, Florida, Debra Pinkins (Jeffrey W.) The Broken Chain

We little knew that morning that
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
in death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you,
the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories,
your love is still our guide;
and though we cannot see you,
you are always at our side.

Our Family chain is broke,
and nothing seems the same;
but as God calls us one by one,
the Chain will link again.
