Obituary

Pamela Yolanda Poitier Dickerson transitioned to eternal life on Thursday, December 1, 2011, at her residence.  Born December 5, 1955 in Dade County, OpaLocka, Florida, she was the daughter of Cesta Gooden Poitier and the late William O. Poitier of Miami, Florida.  At an early age, Pam became a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Pelham where her ancestors were one of the original founders.

Pam graduated from Pelham High School, Pelham, Georgia, in 1973.  Upon graduation, she attended Savannah State University in Savannah, Georgia and graduated in 1977 with a B.S. degree in Biology.  She moved to Washington, D.C. and worked at Aerospace Industries, Inc. for twenty years initially as a Statistician and later transitioned to become a computer analyst designing web pages.  She continued her education at the USDA Graduate School in Washington, D.C. and earned a certificate of computer science.

On September 3, 1988, Pam was united in marriage to Michael Dickerson of Hyattsville, Maryland and to this union a son, Bryan, and daughter, Maya, were born.  Education was very important to Pam and she instilled this into her children.  She was "very active" in PTA meetings throughout their school years.  Some of her "joys" were being involved as a troop leader for Maya's girl scouts group and supporting Bryan as he participated in sports activities at Boys and Girls Club.  They are both currently attending college pursuing the legacy their mother left for them.

Pam was an avid reader and very dedicated to taking her walks in the neighborhood early every morning.  She will be truly missed!  She was easy to talk to and she was a great listener.  Her relationship with the Lord Jesus shined through her caring personality for people.  Although she considered Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Pelham as her home church, while living in the D.C. and Maryland areas, she regularly attended Shiloh Baptist Church.

Pam leaves her dear mother, Cesta Gooden Poitier of Pelham, Georgia; husband, Michael Dickerson of Hyattsville, Maryland; one son, Brian Dickerson of Princess Anne, Maryland; one daughter, Maya Dickerson of Princess Anne, Maryland; three aunts, Cleatrice (Oliver) Murray of Atlanta, Georgia, Eartha C. Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free
I'm following the path God has laid you see.
I took His hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work, to play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found that peace at the close of day.

If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Oh yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and peace to thee
God wanted me now; He set me free.
