Obituary

The funeral service of Reverend Melton Wimberly, will be conducted Saturday, January 2, 2010, at 1:00 p.m., at the Union Missionary Baptist Church, 70 Thompson Street, Camilla. Reverend Charles Gilbert will officiate. Interment will follow in the Oakview Cemetery.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Kentera Cole, Willie Sanders, Anthony Spooner, Climmie Lee Wimberly, Bishop Edgar Wimberly, Lonnie Wimberly,

Active Pallbearers will be Alan Brown, Marvin Clayton, Oscar Clayton, Todd West, Kelly Wimberly, Tommie Wimberly.

Reverend Melton Wimberly, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, was born March 20, 1941 in Mitchell County, Georgia, to the late William Wimberly and Candis Wimberly.

He confessed Christ at an early age and united with the Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church.
He was educated at Camilla Consolidated High School in Camilla, Georgia.

He was married to the former Lillie Mae Braddy. To this union two children were born, Jacqueline and Lorenzo. He was also the father of a son, Cha-Kei by Diann Hopkins.

Melton closed his eyes on Saturday, December 26, 2009, at the Mitchell County Hospital in Camilla, Georgia.

He leaves to cherish his memories, two daughters, Jacqueline Wimberly and Clara Hopkins of Brooklyn, New York; two sons, Cha-Kei (Yolanda) Wimberly, Lorenzo Wimberly of Brooklyn, New York.

He leaves four brothers, Reverend Edgar (Toy) Wimberly of Brooklyn, New York, Climmie (Emma) Wimberly of Lithonia, Georgia, Lonnie Charles Wimberly of Augusta, Georgia, Willie C. Sanders of Camilla, Georgia; five sisters, Norma Jo Clayton of Pelham, Georgia, Eddie Mae Smith, Rosa Lee (Robert) Childs, Dorothy Sanders, Vera Mae Smith of Camilla, Georgia; sister-in-law, Bernice Wimberly of Camilla, Georgia.

He also has seven grandchildren, Jauquay, Kanzada, Kalandra, Jahkema, Patrick, Kaiyah, Ethan; great grandchildren, Jaliyah, Austin, Bryant; special friend, Diann Hopkins of Brooklyn, New York; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving friends at the home of Mr. Wimberly's sister, Eddie Mae Smith, at 4856 Ledbetter Road, Camilla, Georgia.
