Robert Lee Sampson, III, was born November 29, 1949 in Camilla, Georgia to Robert Lee Sampson, Jr. and Carrie Mae Toombs Sampson who preceded him in death.
He accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He continued to serve Christ but later moved his membership to the Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church in Camilla, Georgia.
He attended the Camilla Consolidated High School (CCS) and graduated in the class of 1968.
"Samp", as he was affectionately known, was joined in marriage in April of 1969 to the former Kathryn Norwood. To this union was born one child, Erin D. Sampson.
Samp and his family moved to Lakewood, New Jersey where he worked for General Motors for three years. He and his family later relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where he lived and worked with the Atlanta Public School System for thirteen years.
Samp later returned to Camilla to follow in his father's footsteps and pursued his passion in auto body repair. He opened Sampson Auto Body and Repair Shop in Camilla where he worked tirelessly until his death.
He will forever be remembered for his story telling, laughter, love of talking with his friends and his work.
Samp departed this life on March 20, 2021.
He is survived by one son, Erin D. Sampson (Jennifer) of McDonough, Georgia; one daughter, Tonya Scott of New Port News, Virginia; step-daughter Delia Frazier (Richard) of Smyrna, Georgia; one sister, Betty Joe Cochran of Arizona; five grandchildren, Michael, Stefon, Erin, Tanisha and Maria; five great grandchildren, Faith, Amara, Jailah, Jamari, and Jahmere; a special cousin like his sister, Elaine Burley (Darryl); one uncle, Jetson Toombs AKA Uncle Bubby; a special friend, Bonnie Jackson; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
