Obituary

What is in a name?  Affectionately known as Rosa Mae, she was often called "Mae" by family members and friends.  The origin of her name is Rose and her favorite color was pink.  Like the pink rose, she was bright and beautiful to behold.  Rosa was a classic symbol of grace and elegance, admired and appreciated by all who encountered her.

Rosa was a very diverse and talented lady.  As a young woman she was known for her exquisite seamstress and hair styling skills which served many in the community.  She was also an excellent cook and used those skills as a valued employee at the Ichauway Plantation, now known as the Joseph Jones Ecological Center.  She retired from the center in 2001, but continued to use her skills as a homemaker and a model of eloquence and service to her community.  Rosa was a faithful member of Christ C.M.E. Church for over seventy years where she served as a member of the choir and Stewardess Board.

Rosa Mae Crawford-Bailey, was born to the parentage of the late Mr. Johnnie Crawford and the late Mrs. Corine Kegler-Crawford, in Damascus (Early County) Georgia on December 14, 1926.  On Monday, June 8, 2015, GOD made the final call of patience, suffering and endurance that her soul may rest in peace.

She was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Calvin Bailey in 1960.  They were the parents to Ned, Yvonne, Melvin, Dyanne, Terrel and Tammie.

Rosa was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Calvin Bailey; a son, Mr. Melvin Sheffield; a daughter, Ms. Yvonne Howard; three brothers, Mr. Oscar Crawford, Mr. Reliford Chester, Mr. Johnny Crawford, Jr.; and two sisters, Ms. Estella Chester and Ms. Susie Mae Dunbar.

She leaves to cherish her memories: sons, Ned (Mazanne) Sheffield, Jr., Colquitt, Georgia and Terrell (Mary Eta) Bailey, Colquitt, Georgia; daughter, Tammie Bailey, Albany, Georgia; stepdaughter, Dyanne Bailey-Smith, Florida City, Florida; nieces,
Agnes Culpepper and Mattie Grimes, Arlington, Georgia, Earnestine (Sam) Jerry, Colquitt, Georgia, Corine (Carl) Andrews, Orlando, Florida, Leona "Lee" White (New York); grandchildren, Ronnie (Saundra) Sheffield, Colquitt, Georgia, Rotimi Sheffield, Newark, New Jersey; Greta Wheeler, Katina Wheeler, Xavier Wheeler, all of Atlanta, Georgia, Terrel "Jarius" Bailey and Kyra Bailey, both of Colquitt, Georgia; a host of grandchildren; great nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Until We Meet Again

Each morning when we awake
we know that you are gone.
And no one knows the heartache
As we try to carry on.

Our hearts still ache with sadness
and many tears still flow.
What it meant to lose you,
No one will ever know.

Our thoughts are always with you,
your place no one can fill.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we love you still.

There will always be a heartache,
and often a silent tear,
But always a precious memory
Of the days when you were here.

If tears could make a staircase,
And heartaches make a lane,
We'd walk the path to heaven
And bring you home again.

We hold you close within our hearts,
And there you will remain,
To walk with us throughout our lives
Until we meet again.

Our family chain is broken now,
And nothing will be the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
