William Quimbly
December 29, 1951 – April 30, 2018
William Lamar Quimbly (Larry) was born to the late Thomas Manson and the late Hattie Ruth Quimbly Williams in Mitchell County, Baconton, Georgia, on December 29, 1951.
William confessed to CHRIST at an early age uniting with the St. James Missionary Baptist Church of Baconton, Georgia. After retiring from the United States Army and settling in Augusta, Georgia, he joined the First Shiloh Baptist Church of Augusta. Here he was an active member of the Parking Ministry.
William was educated in the Mitchell County School System of Camilla, Georgia.
William joined the United States Army in 1971.
William married the love of his life Alice Toombs on June 30, 1973. They were married for forty-five years. They were blessed with two sons. One son, Roderick Irving Quimbly preceded him in death.
William retired from the U.S. Army in 1993 after serving on many tours for twenty-one years. After retiring from the U.S. Army, he and his family settled in Augusta, Georgia. Here he worked as a County and State Correction Officer for nineteen years. He ended his working career as a School Crossing Guard for the Richmond County School System. He also served as Vice-President of the High Pointe/Clark Estate Neighborhood Association of Hephzibah, Georgia.
William leaves to hold dearly precious memories an affectionate wife: Alice Toombs Quimbly of Augusta, Georgia; one son, Christopher (Lucinda) Quimbly of Plano, Texas; six grandchildren, Myesha J. Quimbly of Albany, Georgia, Destiny K. Quimbly and Christopher J. Quimbly II of North Carolina, James Farewell, III of Kannapolis, North Carolina, Fredrick Farewell of Perker, Tennessee, Makeva Farewell of Dallas, Texas; one great grandson, Jayce Roderick Quimbly; three sisters, Mercedes Sanders of Baconton, Georgia, Juanita Quimby of Albany, Georgia, Ruth (John) Haynes of Albany, Georgia; three brothers, Thomas Williams, Sr., Henry Quimby of Baconton, Georgia, Julius (Diane) Williams of Albany, Georgia; a devoted and loving mother-in-law, Mary Toombs Geter of Camilla, Georgia; five sisters-in-law, Shirley (Roman) Mobley of Augusta, Georgia, Bonnie (Starley) Odoms, Mary (Cain) Morman of Camilla, Georgia, Angela Toombs of Albany, Georgia, and Lucille Toombs Hill of Camilla, Georgia; five brothers-in-law, Eddie (Gwen) Toombs, John Toombs, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada, Forrest (Sonya) Toombs of Vancouver, Washington, Freddie Toombs of Albany, Georgia, Adolph Toombs of Camilla, Georgia; a devoted and loving nephew, Starling Jermaine Odoms of Augusta, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and neighbors of Augusta, Georgia.
