BIRTH: Shirley Turner Brown was born on May 2, 1950 in Camilla, Georgia to the late James Turner Sr. and Bertha Lee Burley-Turner.
EDUCATION: Shirley graduated from Camilla Consolidated High School in 1968. After high school, Shirley became a migrant worker for several years until she followed her passion for the love of children and became an educator at Baker County Head start. The love for children led her to have educated children for over 30 years until she retired. After retirement, Shirley worked at the Camilla Boys & Girls club for 1 year.
LIFESTYLE: Shirley confessed her life to Christ at an early age and joined St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church of Baconton, Georgia. Shirley then married the love of her life, Edward Brown Jr in 1969 and then changed her membership to attend Oak Grove A.M.E. Church of Camilla, Georgia. After several years and unforeseen circumstances, Shirley rejoined St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church and became a devoted member by serving in the choir, assisting with the youth department, missionary work, and serving secretarial duties. Shirley was a pillar in the community by actively attending NAACP meetings, teaching youths black history plays, chaperoning many youth trips, and caring for many children.
PASSION: Shirley had a heart of gold for children which led her to become a foster parent in 1994. She was self-less and eager to help anyone that she could. Shirley had a smile that would light up any room when she appeared. Shirley enjoyed being around family and friends, shopping, looking her best, eating good food, and traveling.
AWAITING HER ARRIVAL: Shirley will be welcomed by her late husband Edward Brown Jr; father, James Turner Sr; mother, Bertha Lee Burley- Turner; sister, Evelyn Walker; brothers, Norris Turner and Ulyssee Drake.
CHERISHED MEMORIES: Shirley leaves a legacy and loving memories that will be remembered forever and ever. She leaves her loving sons, Edward Brown III (Tanya Brown); Kennard McCrimon, and Johntavious Brown (Lillian Brown); loving daughters, Sharolyn Turnbow (Carl Turnbow Jr.), Mychelle McCrimon, Jay'Nia Brown, Danyell Brown; loving granddaughters, Ebony Brown and Aaliyah Brown; loving grandsons, Trevell Grissom, Ricco Brown, Cameron Brown, Enzo Brown, Jeremiah Turnbow; loving brothers, James Turner Jr. (Grace Turner), David Turner, Eddie Turner (Betty Turner); loving sister, Pamela Mosley (Harold Mosley); sister/niece, Marion Daniels (Charlie Daniels Jr.); Special friends: Linda Coliman, Pat Cowling, and Douglas Brooks.
