Celebration of Life for
Stella Campbell Johnson

Stella was born on June 25, 1918 in Mitchell County, Georgia to the late Seaborn Campbell and Estella Dozier Campbell.  She was the sixth of ten children, and the fourth of seven girls, born to the family.  She attended the schools of Mitchell County.  She was raised in a Christian home and began her spiritual journey at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Stella Johnson loved the Lord and she loved her family.  Her life and legacy can best be expressed through the words of Scripture.  Proverbs thirty-one describes a virtuous woman and it is how her children and family remember her.

"Who can find a virtuous woman and capable wife?  She is worth more than precious rubies.  Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life.  She will not hinder him but help him all her life."

Stella married Nick Johnson and moved with him to Pelham, Georgia where she dutifully helped him raise his children who affectionately called her "Little Mama".  She joined the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and participated in many of the ministries of the church and worshiped faithfully there with him until his death.

"She is energetic and strong a hard worker.  She watches for bargains; her light burn late into the night.  Her hands are busy spinning thread, her fingers twisting fiber."

She and her sisters, Ceola, Mary, and sister-in-law, Lillian, worked for over fifty years at Willgree Manufacturing Company later Mitchell Manufacturing Company.

"She extends a helping hand to the poor and opens her arms to the needy."

Stella was always willing to assist others in the community and within her own family.

"She dressed like royalty in gowns of finest cloth."

Stella took pride in her appearance and that of her family and ensured that they were always well-dressed.  She owned the most elaborate church hats and enjoyed wearing them.

"She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs with no fear of the future.  When she speaks, her words are wise, and kindness is the rule when she gives instructions."

Not only did she know her Bible, but Stella was also knowledgeable about civic and legal affairs and her advice was often sought by family and friends.

"Her children stand and bless her.  Her husband praises her.  There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all."

Stella was proud of the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and other family members.  They also speak affectionately of "Mama Stella".  Upon the death of "Papa Nick", Stella moved back to the home house in Camilla, and joined Summerhill Missionary Baptist Church in Pelham.  Her house continued to be the family gathering place and everyone looked forward to her Red Velvet Cake and other delicacies.  Five generations of her descendants gathered with her on her 85th birthday to show their love and appreciation and to celebrate all that she has meant.

"Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.  Reward her for all she has done."

The Lord rewarded Stella Campbell Johnson with a long, rich, and blessed life.  She is the last of the children of Seab and Estella Campbell to depart from this earthly home for their glorious home in heaven.  She rejoins her parents, siblings, husband, and other members of the Campbell-Dozier family in Glory.  She was welcomed by her heavenly Father, the King of Kings saying, "weary pilgrim, welcome home."

She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Catherine Williams, who diligently served for over ten years as her caregiver, daughters, Pearl Johnson, Juanita Curkerney, and Octavia Dennard.  She leaves numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends to continue her legacy.

"Rest Mama Stella..... We will see you in the morning."

You were a precious gift from God above,
So much beauty, grace and love.
You touched our hearts in so many ways,
Your smile so bright even on the bad days.

You heard God's whisper calling you home,
You didn't want to go and leave us alone.
You loved us so much, you held on tight,
Till all the strength was gone and you could no longer fight.

He had called your name before,
You knew you couldn't make him wait anymore.
So you gave your hand to God and slowly drifted away,
Knowing that with our love we will be together again some day.
