Obituary

Thelma Collins Wright Johnson, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by her daughters, Debbie, Mary Lynn and Susan. Thelma was born September 18, 1938 to the late Edmond and Nancy Wright of Camilla, Georgia.

She is preceded in death by Nancy Wright (mother), Edmond Wright (father), James Johnson (son), Priscilla Davis (sister), Lester Norwood (brother), Joe Pierce (brother), and Joseph Jackon (grandson).

She received her formal education from Camilla Consolidated School (CCS) graduating with honors in her class of 1957. She played basketball, sang alto in the choir, and joined Beulah Baptist Church. She later attended Monroe Vocational Tech where she studied Cosmetology. She was also a very good artist. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was later married and raised 4 children single-handedly as a single mother. Later, Thelma was a supervisor at Goody's and Ithaca. She later would become a chef for Cousins Properties out of Atlanta, Georgia where she was able to prepare lavish meals for President George H.W. Bush, President Jimmy Cater, Ted Turner with Turner Enterprises, Jane Fonda, and other notable celebrities. Thelma always had a passion for cooking and loved cooking for those she loved.

Thelma loved talking, joking, and laughing. She is most remembered for her funny quotes and sense of humor. Thelma also loved gardening, making jellies and jams, reading cookbooks, and reading her bible.

Thelma is survived by her sisters Elma Reeves, Nancy Wright, Ann Anderson, Nellie Anderson, a village of nieces and nephews, and dear friends.

She is also cherished in memory by her grandchildren: Joel Jackson (Kalinda) Conyers, Georgia; Jason Jackson (Teresa) Americus, Georgia; James Johnson, III (Joslyn) Davidson, North Carolina; and Reshod Johnson Garner, North Carolina. Chauncey Smith (Dr. Bashaun) Oxford, Ohio; Alan Lee Jones (Kenisha) Richmond, Virginia; Alex Lee Jones (Connie) Chesterfield, Virginia; Gregory B. Dyson Jr., USN (Nicole, USN) Chesapeake, Virginia; and Edmond Dyson.

Her legacy continues through her great grandchildren: Jarrad Jackson, Zion Jackson, Jarrius Jackson, Gabriel Jackson, Jordon Jackson, Jada Jackson, Jeremiah Jackson, Jamari Jackson; James Cameron Lee Johnson IV, Justyce Sanai Johnson, Journey Lynn Johnson, Jayda Skye Johnson (future baby girl); Shaun Smith, Sterling Smith, Sophia Smith, Silas Smith; Eliza Jones, Ivy Jones, Kaleb Jones, Alex Lee Jones Jr.; Ezekiel Jones, Moses Jones, Elisha Jones, Azariah Jones; and Izayah Dyson.

Thelma is also survived by her daughters: Deborah Huff (Grady) Camilla, Georgia; Mary Lynn Jones (Jimmie) Chesapeake, Virginia; and Susan A. Dyson (Rev. Gregory) Camilla, Georgia.

Momma is with us always! First in her lifetime
and now forever in our hearts and memories.
