Obituary

Vera L. Jackson, daughter of the late Henry Alexander and Mosie Alexander, was born February 18, 1919 in Mitchell County, Georgia.

Throughout her childhood, Vera was nurtured in the word of God.  As a youth, she began her fellowship with Christ at the Oak Grove AME Church in Camilla, Georgia where she served faithfully for many years.  After moving to Detroit, Michigan, she fellowshipped with several churches.  After moving to Miami, Florida, she became a member of St. Peter AME Church.  Vera was a woman who was strong in faith, in character, and in wisdom.  She was a vessel whose faith in God never wavered for she was deeply rooted and grounded in the Lord.

She was united in holy matrimony to Rudolph Jackson who preceded her in death.  To this union one son, Rudolph Alexander, was born, who also preceded her in death.

Blessed beyond measure, "Sister", as she affectionately called by her family members, reached the hallowed age of 102 years and eight months.  Sister loved her family and oftentimes during her life, she talked about her childhood and humble beginnings.  She was a strong but gentle woman with a heart of gold.  Her friendliness and kindness to all people, her commitment to her church and community, and her devotion and love for her family and friends are lasting tributes to the beauty of her heart and soul.  Her presence will deeply be missed by all who had the privilege to have known her.

On Monday, October 25, 2021, God saw fit to call Vera to her heavenly home.

In addition to her parents, her husband, and son, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Peoples, Mary Wright, Willo Dean Alexander; three brothers, William Henry Alexander, Willie Edward Alexander, James Ledford Alexander.

She leaves to cherish her memories two sisters, Phenia Sheffield of Valdosta, Georgia, Dorothy Virginia Warren of Atlanta, Georgia; a stepdaughter, Wanda Jackson of Atlanta, Georgia; a dear friend, Charlie Burgess of Miami, Florida; a host of nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
