Obituary

Vivian Faye McKinney Smith was born October 30, 1944 in Macclenny Florida to Marie Peterson and Miles McKinney, Sr., both of whom preceded her in death.

She attended Keller School from grades first through twelfth, graduating as valedictorian of the class of 1962; her classmates also selected her as Prom Queen.  A talented contralto, she sang in the school choir and, at the insistence of her choir director, she auditioned for the Ted Mack Amateur Hour--a popular televised talent show of the times.  She attended Edward Waters College in Jacksonville and Bethune-Cookman College (now University) in Daytona Beach Florida. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, sewing and spending time with her family.

Vivian worked as the Manager of the Mitchell County Elementary School Cafeteria for over 35 years until her retirement. She is still known to many who attended the school as "The Lunch Lady," a term that she was proud of. Vivian ensured that every child received hot meals regardless of their ability to pay.

Most importantly, Vivian was a Jehovah's Witnesses; she dedicated her life to Jehovah and became a full time pioneer sharing Bible teachings at every opportunity. Vivian attended the Pelham Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses where she worshipped joyfully and faithfully for over 30 years with her spiritual brothers and sisters.

She is survived by four children--Camia F. Smith, Karen M. Smith, D'Ira P. Toombs and Kecia A. Toombs; a sister, Sonja Peterson-Lewis; brother Michael McKinney and preceded in death by brothers Miles McKinney Jr. and Terry McKinney.
