William Smith, son of the late Jim L. Smith and Geneva Smith, was born July 6, 1948 in Camilla, Georgia.
Affectionately known as "Pop", William was educated in the Mitchell County Public School System. He was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Bernice Knight on September 8, 1978. To this union two children were born.
He began his adult life by working in pulpwood. He later began working with Hercules Bumpers until the plant closed. He then started working with Cagle's and also in farm.
He confessed CHRIST and joined the St. John Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a Deacon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jimmy Harris, Jr.; two brothers, Robert Lee Smith and Jim L. Smith; one sister, Liza Pearl Kimbrough (Willie Lee); two brothers-in-law, Joe Ross and Willie Kimbrough.
He departed this life on Sunday, September 1, 2019, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted and loving wife of forty-one years, Bernice Knight Smith of Camilla, Georgia; two loving and devoted daughters, Teresa Knight (Julius), Cathy Knight (Greg) of Camilla, Georgia; seven grandchildren, McArthur Gaines, Myesha Mobley (Keyain), J'Maica Williams, Arlandius Harris, Romya Curry, T'Mirakle Watson, Nyla Hurst; one great grandchild, Quintashia Gaines; two sisters, Ruby Ross, Juanita Carter (Melvin) of Albany, Georgia; seven sisters-in-law, Mary Smith, Ethel (Pastor John) Green, Willie Mae (Minister Roger) Angelety, Annie Mae Jenkins, and Lillie Knight (Willie) of Cairo, Georgia, Jessie (William) Cooper and Betty (Ernest, Sr.) Lucas of Camilla, Georgia; four brothers-in-law, Ike Knight, Ulysses (Mary) Knight and William Knight of Cairo, Georgia, David Knight of St. Petersburg, Florida; a loving and devoted pastor, Eddie Jackson; two devoted deacons-friends, Stacy Butler and Stacy Kelly; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
